David Francey wins Best
Singer - Contemporary!
On December 1st / 07 the 3rd annual Canadian Folk Music Awards were held at the Museum of Civilization, Quebec.

This year David was nominated for three awards
Best Album -Contemporary
Best
Singer - Contemporary
Best Songwriter - English
He was not able to make the ceremony as he was performing in Newmarket Ontario in front of an audience that included his 86 year old mother -a date he couldn't miss! So - I went in David's stead. I am so glad I went!
The museum provided a beautiful setting and the hall was filled with folk friends from across the country. I attended with our daughter, Julia, (Julia sings harmony on Right of Passage) There were many fine performances and we enjoyed them all.
The nominees in all categories included many fine artists. It was with great surprise that after a wonderful introduction, Ian Tamblyn announced David's name for the best singer - contemporary. I found myself on stage in front of a microphone - talk about role reversal! I am not the speaker that David is but I tried to express our gratitude for being honoured by David's peers. Thanks to all the judges and to the CFMA committee for making an idea into a successful event!

The award itself is a gorgeous piece and is now proudly displayed on top of our piano with David's other awards. Here's a photo of David holding it.
